Bigjo here - if you're a DFW area live blues fan, you've probably seen Bigjo some time in the past decade or so associating with known musicians and performing in various *free* "jam" or "open mic" events around the Metroplex. Well, it's time for Bigjo to step up and publicly support the artists, venues and patrons that help preserve the tradition of Amereican roots music, that nurture and keep the spirit of the blues alive, and expands our cultural awareness of the blues.
The initial release of the BigjoPromoCo website has been developed with the artists in mind. The evolving INFORMATION area is a basic resource guide for both professional and amateur musicians, with guides for "jammers", how-to information on promotions and self-publishing as an indie record label.
The PROMOTIONS area is oriented to the full-time working musician, band or project, that's interested in products (CDs,T-Shirts), promotional items and marketing for that desperately-needed additional income when bookings alone don't meet financial expectations. I've published a calendar so you can ask me in person about promoting your project.
Obviously this is an ongoing project, so I encourage each of you to offer suggestions either privately or publicly via our Guestbook - just post your entry for public view or use the link to send a private message to the administrator (that's me!). I've already gotten a number of suggestions for a message board and/or chat area - as well as a consolidated gig reference for jammers and patrons. Great ideas, but we need to recognize that North Texas Blues and Southwest Blues and Buddy Magazine already contribute enormous support our local blues community - so please bookmark their sites and participate regularly!
Another cool idea from one of our "pro-am" "brothers-from-another-mother" would be to provide a gallery of local musicians and live performances - it would be nice to publish all the "jammer" photos that have been collected over the years (check out Zuzu Bollin and Sam Meyers on drums back in the Schooners era at HashBrownBlues.com) - or to document important events like the Southwest Blues Foundation Benefit (selected photos at ChrisRuest.com. SO, if any of you like this idea and care to volunteer your photos for online viewing or establish a link exchange for your photo site - please contact Bigjo via email or just look for me at almost any blues event in Dallas. On the other hand, if you're interested in online promotions, band merchandising, or custom web sites, you can page me 24x7 by sending email to Bigjo or leaving voice mail message toll free 1-877-725-1853 (I get paged on all vmail) - if you've got the money, I've got the time!
